History of St. Martin High School

St. Martin High School currently serves students in grades 9-12 and prepares them for college and careers.

Early public education in the St. Martin community began in the late 19th century through small rural schools, including Big Ridge, Point St. Martin, Bayou Poito, Bayou Talla, and Bayou Costapia.  In 1914, several of these schools were consolidated to form what was known as the Harrison-Jackson County Line School.

In 1925, the St. Martin Consolidated School was established on Lemoyne Boulevard, bringing together students from across southwest Jackson County, and the St. Martin High School on Lemoyne Boulevard operated from 1939 until 1983.

In January 1982, the Jackson County Board of Supervisors deeded 232 acres to the Jackson County School Board, and a new high school was built east of Old Fort Bayou Road in the eastern area of the St. Martin community, completed in 1983.  This building now serves as St. Martin Middle School.

Following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, a new St. Martin High School facility was to be built for the St. Martin community.  The new St. Martin High School, where we are currently located today on Yellow Jacket Road, opened August 5th, 2010.
